What Goes Around ‘Eventually’ Comes Around – God’s Non-Linear Plan

Bible Reading: Luke 24:36b-49

In the Christian calendar this week we sit neatly between Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday. The Common Lectionary is peppered with readings that focus on this ‘in between’ time and the ‘now and not yet.’

We come across the post resurrection Jesus, turning up at the shoreline, in an upper room, on the road and around the meal table. Each time (as in today’s reading) his physical presence is temporary, but we hear that the Holy Spirit/the Spirit of Christ will soon arrive and remain with them\us always.

For the disciples there still must have been confusion, anxiety, and disbelief along with a sense of hope, joy, and wonder.

Our faith journeys are often not too dissimilar.

When we start out, we think it is all onward and upward, with a clear view of what will happen next.

But anyone who has been a Christ follower for more than five minutes will understand that the road has many twists and turns, sometimes obstacles, and obscure or absent signage.

However, God is working out His divine plan and doesn’t always react to our moaning of ‘Are we there yet?’

For our part, we are ‘called to walk by faith and not by sight’ – to trust the creator and get on the path.
