Greater Love: The Good Shepherd

Bible Readings: John 10:11-18, 1 John 3:16-18

It’s three weeks since Easter and in this coming week, on Thursday 25th April, we will commemorate ANZAC Day.

This is a time when we will pause and reflect on those who have made sacrifices in all the wars Australia has been involved in, lest we forget.

We will hear the words: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Which is adirect quote from John 15:13.

In one of Jesus’ “I AM” statements, in John’s gospel, he writes that Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

In his first letter, he points to this and then offers a challenging statement and question.

Today we will be thinking about these things, and what they might mean for us today.
