John 3: 1-21 / Nicodemus: Encounters with Jesus
Today in the gospel, Nicodemus met Jesus. He was a Pharisee, a religious leader, who followed all the Jewish laws. Nicodemus knew the Scriptures by heart and held a respected position in the Jewish council, a group making important decisions for the religious community. People admired him for his Bible knowledge. Despite doing everything right and having accurate information about God, Nicodemus lacked a true understanding of God.
Nicodemus witnessed Jesus teaching at the temple. Despite other religious leaders opposing Jesus, Nicodemus was curious and wanted to learn more. In the third chapter of John, he secretly met Jesus at night to delve into His teachings. Jesus surprised him by stating that true knowledge of God comes through a spiritual rebirth.
Although Nicodemus had this encounter with Jesus, he didn’t openly express his faith until he, along with Joseph, buried Jesus. Nicodemus’s transformation occurred gradually. In our relationships with God, instant perfection isn’t the goal; instead, God values our growth, which takes time. IL-WOONG.
