Come and see Jesus for yourself. Luke 24:1-12
On Good Friday, we reflected on why Jesus suffered. Good Friday is a day to remember and reflect on the price that was paid by Jesus. There is nothing we can add to it. Jesus suffered and died on that first Good Friday. He did it all for our salvation. However, on the first day of Easter, the Crucified Jesus conquered the death, has risen from the dead and shows up to people! So, this morning we are going to reflect on what God is saying to us through the Easter story.
Today’s text begins with a group of women who came to grieve over Jesus’s dead body. In fact, up until that moment, they had given up all hope. They came with grief, sadness and defeat.
However, they were told by angels that Jesus was alive again. That seemed highly unlikely. It sounded impossible until they remembered that Jesus had actually predicted that this would happen. What Jesus had predicted had come true. He brings hope to replace grief and new life right out of death. For those who feel hopeless, the Easter resurrection of Jesus is the very best news we could ever hear.
In the second part of the text, we find that two of Jesus’ followers met the risen Christ on the way to Emmaus. At first they did not recognise him in the conversation but during dinner they suddenly realised him. He was no stranger anymore but Jesus. That’s what the Easter story is all about. It’s about opening our eyes so that we can see the truth about Jesus for ourselves. This Easter, you are invited to come and see Jesus for yourself! Experience the risen Christ. Believe in him and be transformed, Amen. … Il-Woong
