John 14:15-31, When God is Like a Mother
When we consider God, the one who helps and nurtures his children each day, we may consider the Holy Spirit of God to be like a mother. It is not talking about genders of God but the activity of God in the world; the act of the Holy Spirit acts in the role of mother to the church.
The Holy Spirit brings us new birth. In John 3, Jesus says to Nicodemus – You must be born from above – that is a spiritual birth. That statement ‘the MUST’ is – something to accomplish, something to produce. New birth is something we caused to happen.
The Holy Spirit helps us (v. 16). Jesus was trying to communicate to his disciples about the power of the Holy Spirit to come among us and with us to help us, to hold us, to advise us, to give us strength to carry on.
The Holy Spirit teaches and reminds us (v. 26). The Holy Spirit teaches us to remember Jesus, to learn the scriptures, to love God, to live holy lives and to walk by faith. We need the Holy Spirit beside us to guide and direct us lest we miss the way. IL-WOONG.
