Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

LPUC eNews – Sunday 8 August 2021

There is no in person worship this Sunday due to the current COVID restrictions, however you can still watch the service online.

Ephesians 4:1-13 / Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

‘The church is not a building; it is the Body of Christ; it is all of us; any place, any time, any day, we are still the church.’  What do you think of this statement?  Recent times have highlighted the importance of community, we are not just purely individuals but are always interdependent.  It has been also taught in the scriptures since the beginning. God calls us to live a connected life, to come together in community, and to grow together in truth and love.

How is this possible for us to be connected, to be one body in Christ?  Because of the cross of Jesus, we are able to connect with God and connect with others.  Through his cross, we have been reconciled to God and given the ministry of reconciliation; through him we are no longer strangers and sojourners, but brothers and sisters in Christ.  We are connected to grow together.  God wants us to be mature; to grow up spiritually.   And to achieve this goal, we must want to grow, decide to grow, and make an effort to grow.

Then, how can we grow in the community of faith?  We can grow together by upholding each other’s value; by showing acceptance, attention, affection and appreciation. We can grow together by praying for each other’s spiritual growth.  Through this process, all of us will become genuine disciples of Jesus Christ.  Amen.  IL-Woong.

Books recommended and available from Pamela: “The Codebreakers” by Australian Author Alli Sinclair is set in 1943 in Brisbane where a group of ladies are working secretly codebreaking Japanese messages and not able to divulge for 60 years what they were doing.  It is a compelling story of friends.  The second book “The Last Reunion” by Kayte Nunn also an Australian Author starts off in Burma 1945.  It centres around a stolen rare Japanese netsuke stolen in the war and re surfaced in 1999.  The story behind it takes you to the women who joined the 14th Army fighting the forgotten war in the Jungle and they were assigned to running the mobile canteen which took them to many dangerous places to support the men in the Jungle.  It is an uplifting story about the power of love, memory and determination that moves between WW11 and the recent past.
