John 20:1-18, The very first Easter Sunday

As we listen to the story of the very first Easter, we may notice three things. First, the Gospels present the resurrection as a series of unexpected appearances that Jesus appears to his disciples as the resurrected Christ. Easter is the result of a God who comes to us and appears to us out of God’s loving determination to be with us.

Second, what God is saying to us through the Easter story is that Jesus was not only raised but he appeared to the people who were powerless and marginalized like Mary, Peter, and Thomas. Jesus appeared to the very ones who betrayed and disappointed him in the first place, the same losers with whom he shared his last meal before execution.

Third, it is told that resurrection is not only the basis of the Christian faith but also the engine that drives the proclamation of the Gospel. This is the very first message the church has to preach and the last as well.   IL-WOONG.
