Matthew 16:13-20, The Question that Will Change Your Life
When Jesus asked the first question: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” he did so in his first and only trip outside of Palestine. It was a critical moment in the life of our Lord. He was at the end of his ministry. And the disciples answered, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” No problem there because most of the world acknowledges Jesus as a prophet, or at least as a great teacher.
However, if we could just stop here, then there would be no problem. It is when Jesus asks, “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” that the trouble begins. It was, of course, Simon Peter who answered Jesus: “You are the Messiah the Son of the living God.” I was wondering if you and I ever gave much thought to just how important this statement is. As we learn what Peter declares about Jesus, we may consider this question as the foundation for our life and enable us to answer it: “Who is Jesus for me today?” Can you declare that he is your Saviour and Redeemer? Can you say today that, God being your helper, you are doing your best to walk in his footsteps? IL-WOONG
