Exodus 16:2–15, The Next Faithful Step
When the Israelites found themselves in the wilderness, the difficulties of the present made them look back longingly to Egypt. Yet God had not rescued them in order to take them back. God was leading them forward and providing what they needed for the journey – manna, one day at a time.
We too can be tempted to idealise the past when the present is changing and the future seems uncertain. But remembering the past is not about going back; it is about remembering God’s faithfulness and learning to trust God with what comes next. This was also part of our recent Leaders Retreat as we looked back with gratitude, reflected honestly on where we are now, and began discerning where God may be leading us as a congregation.
We may not have a complete map of the future, but neither did Israel. God calls us to trust that God is still with us, will provide what we need, and will show us the next faithful step. So we ask: Where is God with us now? Where is God leading us from here? And what is the next faithful step God is calling us to take together?
Il-Woong.
