Luke 1: 26-38 / The Dilemma of Mary Saying Yes
Today’s text focuses on Mary’s courageous acceptance of God’s call despite the challenges. The story highlights Mary’s encounter with the angel Gabriel, who announced that she would conceive Jesus through divine intervention. This news posed a significant dilemma, given her status as a betrothed virgin, but Mary responded with faith and humility: “I am the Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled” (vs. 38).
The story emphasises that saying “yes” to God often involves risks, misunderstandings, and hardships, as evidenced by Mary’s potential for social ridicule and personal challenges. However, her faith was sustained by God’s grace and presence.
So, the encouragement from the story today is to follow Mary’s example of faith and trust, embracing God’s plans with confidence, knowing that He will provide the strength and guidance we need to face every challenge. IL-WOONG.
