John 9: 1-17, 30-41 / Responding to the Light

In John 9, Jesus encounters a man who has been blind from birth. While the disciples focus on who is to blame for his suffering, Jesus sees a person in need and responds with compassion. He heals the man and restores his sight, but the miracle leads to controversy. The religious leaders refuse to accept what happened and eventually cast the healed man out of the synagogue because he refuses to deny Jesus.

Despite this rejection, the man remains faithful to what he knows: “I was blind, now I see.” His understanding of Jesus gradually grows. First he calls Jesus a man, then a prophet, then a godly man sent from God, and finally he recognises Jesus as the Son of Man and worships Him. This progression shows how faith often grows step by step as people respond to the light God gives them.

The message highlights that spiritual transformation happens when people respond to the light of Christ. When someone accepts the light God gives, He reveals even more truth. But when people reject the light—as the Pharisees did—they remain in spiritual darkness.

Ultimately, the miracle is not only about physical healing but about spiritual sight. Jesus, the Light of the World, opens the eyes of those who are willing to believe, and His followers are called to share that light so others may move from darkness into faith.  Il-Woong.
