Our Identity: in the Past & Present

Luke 8:26-31 & Galatians 3:23-4:7

Jesus’ question to the man, “what is your name?” (v. 30) is significant. A person’s name reveals their identity, and this poor man’s personality had become so fragmented that he had lost both his name and any sense of who he was apart from his illness.

In fact, the epistle reading emphasises on our identity: ‘who we were before we became who we are now.’ What Paul says to the Galatians (v. 23) is that they were once slaves whom longing for freedom. Paul and people in Galatia were once imprisoned by the law. This passage is also talking about how we got our present identity: Through the death of Jesus on a cross, Jesus has set Jews and Gentiles, men and women, free from being in custody under the law; free from being imprisoned under the power of sin (vs 4-6). And we are now able to access an intimate relationship with God because God the Father sent his Son, Jesus Christ.

Through Christ we have access to the Father. We come to “our Father in heaven,” and we hallow His name and we seek His help in all our daily needs. This is what we are able to do now. That brings us then the last point. That is our present identity: who we are now.

We are the children of God. God the Father has made us his sons and daughters. By sending his Son, you and I now are also God’s children. Becoming God’s children – that’s about the greatest thing there could be for us! It puts us in a whole new status. Formerly slaves now His children; heirs of God. That’s who we are! Our identity!  IL-WOONG.

God will never leave us – FuelCast

How do we make things right?  We want to live in a world filled with peace and joy, but we continually hurt each other and choose destruction.  In the Leviticus scroll, God establishes a system for dealing with the effects of this evil and restoring broken relationships.  This system foreshadows Jesus’ sacrifice, which opens the way for all people to draw close to God.  Watch Video.

Only half of Australians believe Jesus was a real person – Eternity News

John Anderson’s conversations, with Bettina Arndt.  John is joined by men’s rights activist and author Bettina Arndt to discuss men’s issues in relation to domestic violence, the education of boys and the demonisation of men in our culture. Bettina argues that feminist lobby groups have distorted domestic violence statistics while neglecting the abuse of both men and women in the home. This is especially prescient in light of the recent Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation trial, where the jury’s judgement would have us question the infallibility of the mantra “believe all women.”
