John 4:5-42 / Living Water for a Thirsty Soul

This week’s message explores the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well from John 4:5–42. Water is one of the most essential elements of life. Without it, people cannot survive for long. While many of us can easily access clean drinking water, millions of people around the world still struggle to obtain it. The Bible often uses water as a powerful symbol of life, cleansing, and renewal. In this passage, Jesus uses the image of water to reveal a deeper truth about the human soul.

When Jesus stopped at Jacob’s well in Samaria, he met a woman who had come to draw water. What began as a simple request for a drink soon turned into a deeply personal conversation. Jesus gently revealed the broken areas of the woman’s life and showed that her deepest need was not physical water, but spiritual renewal. Like many people, she had been searching for meaning and fulfillment in places that could never truly satisfy her.

Jesus offered her something far greater than ordinary water. He spoke of “living water,” a gift that would satisfy the deepest thirst of the soul and lead to eternal life. Through this encounter, the woman realised that Jesus was the Messiah. Her life was transformed, and she immediately went to tell others about the man who knew her completely and still offered her hope.

This story reminds us that many people today live with spiritual dryness or emptiness. Yet Jesus still offers the same promise: anyone who comes to him will find living water that renews, restores, and gives true life.   IL-WOONG.
