John 17:20-26 / In the Heart of Christ’s Prayer
This Sunday’s message focuses on Jesus’ final prayer in John 17:20–26, where He pleads for unity among believers, mirroring His oneness with the Father. It highlights how far the Church has strayed from that vision, tracing disunity from the divided house churches of Corinth to the thousands of denominations today. Even well-meaning efforts like the Reformation have often led to deeper splits.
Modern church divides frequently arise from style, ego, and preference rather than theology. The message critiques how churches duplicate efforts instead of collaborating in mission and worship. Still, it affirms that Jesus’ prayer has been answered—not through uniform traditions, but through a shared confession that “Jesus Christ is Lord.”
True unity is rooted in prayer, not structure. Like in the book of Esther, where God works unseen, He still weaves believers together across boundaries. It is reminded that unity isn’t about sameness, but harmony under Christ.
Jesus prayed not only for our unity, but that we would be with Him and share His glory. Until then, we’re called to live as one body, bearing witness to His love in a divided world. IL-WOONG.
