2 Corinthians 9:6-15 / Gratitude That Gives Back
In the second part of our Thanksgiving series, we explore the theme of Giving from 2 Corinthians 9:6–15. While many people associate giving primarily with money, biblical giving is much broader. It involves offering our time, talents, and treasure in response to God’s abundant grace and generosity toward us.
The Apostle Paul teaches that Christian giving begins with recognising that everything we have comes from God. We are not owners but stewards of God’s gifts. Therefore, the question is not merely how much we give, but why we give.
We give because giving expresses our gratitude to God. Having received salvation, grace, and countless blessings through Christ, our thankfulness should be reflected not only in our words but also in our actions. We give because giving demonstrates that God has first place in our lives. Jesus taught that where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also. Our use of resources reveals what we value most. We give because giving is an act of worship. Just as prayer, singing, Scripture reading, and preaching are parts of worship, so too is offering ourselves and our resources to God.
Paul encourages believers to give willingly and cheerfully, not under compulsion. When we give from grateful hearts, we honour God, support His mission, bless others, and experience the joy that comes from participating in God’s work. May we continue to be faithful and generous stewards of all that God has entrusted to us.
