Matthew 5:1-12 / From Be Good to Behold Grace
Today’s text is often misunderstood as a call to moral achievement, but Jesus is not pointing us to heroes to imitate. He is revealing God’s grace toward deeply flawed people. The Beatitudes are frequently heard as commands – be poor in spirit, be meek, be merciful –turning them into conditions for blessing and reducing Christianity to performance.
This message shows that Jesus was not giving a checklist to earn God’s favour. He was describing the life of the kingdom and, ultimately, his own life. Jesus perfectly lived the Beatitudes. He was meek, merciful, pure, persecuted, and poor in spirit. He fulfilled what we could not, and through his death and resurrection, he brought us into God’s kingdom by grace, not achievement.
The Beatitudes are not about “do this and live,” but “I have done this, so you live.” As we rest in what Christ has done, the life of the kingdom begins to grow in us. Christianity is not about striving to be blessed, but discovering how blessed we already are in Christ. IL-WOONG.
Our Mission is to
Connect with people in Jesus;
Build each other up in faith; and to
Become like Jesus.
