Explore How to Read the Bible: The Bible the Word of God

Ezra 7:6-10 & 2 Peter 1:16-21

The common excuse when it comes to reading the Bible are “I don’t have the time, it takes too much effort, or I don’t understand the Bible.” The only way to overcome these is to have a right handle on the Bible. The Bible needs to be Heard, it must be Read and Studied, Memorised and Reflected upon. These gives the Bible relevance, acceptance, and application in our lives.

It’s what we put into it that yields fruit in our lives. The Psalmist says in Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the one … whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”

Ezra is a fascinating Old Testament Priest, Scribe and Leader. He was a “Scripture Man.” He committed himself to the Scriptures in a three-fold way – Ezra 7:10 “For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.” We each can make this three-fold commitment of study, doing and teaching to make the Bible fruitful in our lives. It will transform us and make us fruitful.
