Matthew 21: 1-11 / Celebration or Sorrow?

This Sunday’s message reflects on the mixed emotions of Palm Sunday – a day filled with both joy and sorrow. As Jesus enters Jerusalem, the crowd celebrates Him as King, shouting “Hosanna.” Yet within days, those same voices will cry, “Crucify Him,” showing how quickly people can change and how deeply they misunderstood who Jesus truly was.

Jesus enters the city knowing what lies ahead. In obedience to God, He continues forward, even though it will lead to the cross. By riding a donkey, He makes it clear that He is not a political or military leader, but a peaceful King who came to save people from sin.

This was a special, God-appointed moment – “their day” – foretold through prophecy. Despite clear signs, many failed to recognise Jesus as the Messiah because they expected something different and were misled by their leaders.

The message then turns to us. Just as God gave Jerusalem a moment to respond, He gives each of us our own opportunity. The call is urgent: don’t just praise Jesus with words – truly give your heart to Him and follow Him.

Real faith means moving from self-centred living to Christ-centred living, and from empty words to active obedience.

Turn to God, live out your faith, and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. This is the day of salvation. Hosanna!
