A Journey with Christ
The walk to Emmaus is not only a literal journey, but a spiritual one also.
On the day that Jesus was resurrected, two of his followers were despondent because they did not understand why Jesus’ body was missing. They did not believe the women’s story that He was alive because they thought no one had seen him. On their journey home, they were joined by one who explained, from the scriptures, that the promised Messiah had to suffer and die and enter his glory.
When the stranger joined them for their meal, they suddenly realised who he was from the familiar manner in which he broke bread and gave thanks.
When they recognised Jesus for who he is, they asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” and they couldn’t wait to share the good news.
Doesn’t your heart burn within you, and don’t you want to share the good news?
