Our Mission is to
Connect with people in Jesus;
Build each other up in faith; and to
Become Like Jesus.

Luke 1:26-38 Mary’s Response to God’s Call Throughout the Gospel of Luke, Mary is described as one obedient to the Lord (1:39-56; 2:34, 51), and Jesus will later declare, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it” (8:21).  Mary had been chosen, “favoured,” to have an important part in God’s plan to bring salvation to God’s people.  Mary is an important example, one who is obedient to God even at great risk to self.  We shall call Mary the first disciple, who have heard the call of God upon her life and said “Yes.”

Today many assume that those whom God favours will enjoy the things we associate with a good life: social standing, wealth, and good health.  Yet Mary, God’s favoured one, was blessed with having a child out of marriage who would later be executed as a criminal. Acceptably, prosperity and comfort have never been the essence of God’s blessing…

Our God loves us enough to enlist us to help as God moves into the world.  Jesus begins his ministry by calling ordinary people to be his disciples.  And the story of Jesus begins with an ordinary person – Mary – being called to help God incarnate into the world.  Instead of sending Gabriel to a queen or princess, God sent the angel to a young girl engaged to a carpenter.

As we reflect on the message I would ask you questions: Would you choose to bear the baby Jesus into the world?  Would you give yourself obediently in response to God’s call?  In other words, would you say ‘yes’ in response to God’s call to be a committed Christian and follow what Jesus Christ taught us?  IL-WOONG.

The Christmas dilemma: Joseph

Carpark Carols:  This year our Carpark Carols evening will be on Sunday 23rd December from 5.30pm.  As this is one of the major outreach events that we have with our local community, any help that you are able to give would be very much appreciated.  Please see the sign-up sheet in the foyer for the different areas in which help is needed.

Also we will hand out gift bags at the carols so we are asking for donations of packets of lollies as we did last year.  A container will be in the kitchen for your donations and a team will put the bags together before the event.

Noelle.  What would you do if you were given a chance for a new beginning?  In this charming holiday film, cold and impatient father Jonathan Keene arrives in a tiny fishing village the week before Christmas to do what he does best: shut down a dying parish.  But things take an unexpected turn as he becomes entangled in the lives of the villages eccentric congregation and learns the true power of love, forgiveness and redemption.
